The works on this disc present three aspects of music in the first decades of the twentieth century: from the popular Brazilian music that permeates Milhaud’s exuberant Le Boeuf sur le toit, and the  ‘genre’ pieces used by the young Benjamin Britten to flex his  modernist muscles, to the synthesis of European tradition and folk music heard in Martinů’s third Violin Sonata.
Díla na této nahrávce představují tři různé aspekty hudební produkce v první dekádě 20. století: od populární brazilské hudby prostupující Milhaudovu bujarou fantasii Le Boeuf sur le toit (Vůl na střeše), přes žánrové kousky mladého Benjamina Brittena, v nichž předvádí svůj modernistický um, až po syntézu evropské tradice a lidové hudby vtisknutou do třetí houslové sonáty Bohuslava Martinů.
